The name Soroptimist is a coined word from two latin words: "soro" meaning woman and "optima" meaning the best.

Women and girls have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams.

MISSION

Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

MISSION:

Members of Soroptimist International of Richmond meet the challenges of our community, country and world in this pandemic period by having a new vision, by breaking out of our ordinary patterns of service.  We will see where the needs are, and we will find creative approaches to serve these needs in a changed world.  We will see beyond obstacles and find new approaches to community service as we continue to work for the greater good in society.

I pledge allegiance to Soroptimist and to the ideals for which it stands:

Soroptimist International (SI)

The first club was founded in Oakland, California and chartered on October 3, 1921.  Soroptimist continued to grow and thrive as a global volunteer movement for decades, expanding into several countries and territories around the world. Today Soroptimist has 75,000 members in 122 countries and territories who contribute time and financial support to community-based  and international projects that benefit women and girls.
